The Landes de Gascogne forest undergoes 2 sensitive periods:
- spring: dried out vegetation from the previous year combined with wet soil that does not support fire-fighting vehicles fosters the spread of forest fires;
- summer: dryness and increasing numbers of forest users strongly scale up the risk of seeing a forest fire break out.
The map presented here clearly shows that a large percentage of forest fires break out along communication routes and urban areas.
