Fire zone surveillance

Fire surveillance:

Forest giving off smoke after a fireAfter a fire occurs, it is important to keep the fire from re-igniting: this is what used to be called the "fire guard" and was performed by the "fire boss". Today, this surveillance work is carried out by the technical advisor who plays an extremely important role by serving for the Head of rescue operations in the event of a fire. It is important that the "extinguished" fire be monitored during the hours and days following the fire brigade's intervention in order to keep the fire from re-igniting.

The mayor of the commune concerned is responsible for monitoring the extinguished fire (art 2212-2 of the CGCT).
Surveillance facilities, motor-drawn cisterns and trucks exist but are still inadequate in number. They are available for the use of communes and ASAs. Surveillance staff varies depending on the commune and security and radio or telephone communication facilities.

Trailers for monitoring fire zones:

Trailers for monitoring fire zonesTo prevent fires from re-igniting, a prototype of a modern trailer intended for preventive purposes has been studied with DFCI's partners for use by communes and DFCI ASAs in charge of fire surveillance.

This hitchable trailer is fit with:
- a water storage tank (capacity: 1,200 to 1,500 litres),
- a watering unit,
- a wetting agent/foaming agent proportioner.
